Kytarový kvartet č. 1 „The Aleph“ (2017)
V Borgesově povídce je Alef malý bod ve vesmíru, který obsahuje všechny další body. Každý, kdo do něj pohlédne, může v jediném okamžiku spatřit bez zkreslení vše, co se ve vesmíru nachází. Daneri je básník, který potřebuje Alef kvůli tomu, aby dokončil epickou báseň popisující v trýznivě zevrubných detailech všechna místa na planetě. Vypravěč (možná sám Borges) oplakává smrt milované Beatriz a rozhodne se, že navštíví dům její rodiny, kde se Alef nachází.
Tak jako jiné Borgesovy povídky (např. The Book Of Sand, jíž jsem se nechal inspirovat ve stejnojmenné skladbě z roku 2010), i Alef sleduje téma nekonečnosti. Moje skladba je z hlediska struktury svým způsobem otevřená partitura: přestože jsou jednotlivé složky a motivy notovány do co nejvyšší možné míry a exaktně, je v partituře ponechán jistý nepatrný prostor pro náhodu a nekonečný počet variací, zvětšující se s každým provedením. Guitar Quartet No. 1 “The Aleph” (2017)
In Borges’ story, the Aleph is a small point in space that contains all other points. Anyone who gazes into it can see everything in the universe from every angle simultaneously, without distortion. Daneri is a poet who needs Aleph for finishing his epic poem that describes every single location on the planet in excruciatingly fine detail. The narrator (probably Borges himself) is mourning the death of beloved Beatriz, and resolves to stop by the house of her family where the Aleph is placed.
As many other Borges´ stories (e.g. The Book Of Sand, which I composed in 2010) The Aleph traces the theme of infinity. Structurally, the piece is in a way an open score – although, the components and motives are notated and defined to the highest possible level, there is a certain tiny little space for chance and for infinite number of variations increasing with every performance.
